Bahrain Mirror: Al-Wefaq National Islamic Society said that keeping the leader of Shia majority in Bahrain, Ayatollah Sheikh Isa Qassim, under house arrest and tightening the security and judiciary measures against pro-democracy, rights and freedoms citizens warn of the worst to come in this political crisis.

In a statement, Al-Wefaq added that "the house arrest measure against Sheikh Qassim hinders the medical treatment he usually needs to receive from specialized doctors, let alone the harassment his family members get subjected to in case they tried to visit him. These measures come as part of the tight security siege imposed on Diraz, despite the attempts of the official media outlets to manipulate the facts and portray a different image."

It further stressed that "the latest developments in Bahrain warn of an increase in the political and security escalation by the authorities, which will lead Bahrain to a worse reality in terms of human rights and the political situation, especially with the imposed ban on freedom of peaceful assembly, restriction of freedoms of political activism, allowing military courts to try civilians and tightening the security grip amid the increase in numbers of martyrs, detainees and the injured."

Al-Wefaq also highlighted "the importance of the UNHCR's role in promoting human rights principles coinciding with the announcement of the High Commissioner's visit to Bahrain after official temporization," indicating that Bahrain's continuous renunciation from respecting international control mechanisms through hindering the visits of UN rapporteurs and special UN teams requires more pressure on the Bahraini regime to bound it to respect these UN mechanisms."

Al-Wefaq National Islamic Society concluded its statement by stating that: "The political crisis in Bahrain needs international support to address its repercussions. What is related to human rights crisis cannot be handled without a serious role from the United Nations and OHCHR, especially with the absence of ideological security and the fact that Bahrain is turning into a graveyard for human rights."
