Bahrain Mirror: President of National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) Saeed Al-Faihani said that the 176 recommendations issued by the United Nations Human Rights Council during the universal periodic review on Bahrain's human rights file are not binding and are not considered a condemnation to Bahrain.

In a statement to Al-Ayam local newspaper, Al-Faihani said that the (governmental) institution will take part in the HRC meeting next month as Bahrain is supposed to respond to the 176 issued recommendations.

He added that "these recommendations are not binding", denying considering them as a condemnation to Bahrain. Al-Faihani further stated "all countries issue recommendations, even the friend countries, as a kind of cooperation among them," explaining that among the most important recommendations are "the visit of special rapporteurs and matters related to some laws, death penalty and others. These recommendations are similar to those issued in the previous UPR."
