Bahrain Mirror: The First High Criminal Appeals Court sentenced 2 defendants to 10 years in prison instead of 15 and handed down 2-year jail term instead of 4 to 4 defendants accused of taking part in planting a bomb in security patrol location in Karana and attempting to murder 3 policemen. The court upheld binding the defendants to pay 1178.550 BD for the damages caused to the security patrol and ordered the confiscation of seized items.

The Public Prosecution accused the suspects of attempting, along with other unknowns, on March 19, 2015, to deliberately kill 3 policemen and others, while performing their jobs and carrying out a blast, along with others, aiming at achieving terrorist aim. The suspects blasted an explosive on the public street, aiming at killing any of the policemen.

The prosecution also accused the suspects of acquiring, possessing and using, along with others, explosive, without a license from the Minister of Interior. It also accused them of taking part in an assembly of more than 5 persons, aiming at disrupting public peace and putting people's life and public money to danger as well as acquiring Molotov. The defendants were also accused of damaging movable money owned by the ministry of interior, a security patrol, for a terrorist aim.

Human rights organizations challenge the charges raised against political detainees, since they doubt the independence of the judiciary, whose members are assigned by royal decrees, and since it issues sentences based on confessions extracted under duress and evidence presented by secret investigations and anonymous witnesses.
