Court Upholds 5-Year Jail Term against Suspect Accused of Assembling in Al-Sahla in 2009

Bahrain Mirror: The High Appeals Court upheld a 5-year jail term against defendant accused of assembly and arson charges in Al-Sahla in 2009.

The High Criminal Court acquitted 5 suspects of charge of attempting to kill policeman in Al-Sahla on November 20, 2009, after attacking a security patrol using Molotov. Meanwhile, the court sentenced the first and second suspects to 3 years in jail and the third and fourth suspects to 5 years in prison over assembly and arson charges.

The Public Prosecution had accused the suspects of taking part, on November 20, 2009, in an assembly of more than 5 persons in a public place, aiming at endangering people's lives and money. The suspects tried to deliberately kill a security men and intended to set a police car to fire and prepared Molotov and stones to achieve their aim.

The prosecution also accused the suspects of setting a police car owned by the interior ministry that would endanger people's lives and money, as well as acquiring explosive materials, aiming at using them to put people's lives and money to danger.
