Bahrain Mirror: Al-Wefaq National Islamic Society said that the increase of petrol prices for the second time within a month reflects the extent of exploitation of citizens' money amid failing economic policies surrounded by corruption and absence of institutional and popular approach, as the authorities take control over all assets and resources of the state individually.

Al-Wefaq considered that raising petrol prices is a new slap to the faces of citizens, which is part of a long series of exploitations that started yet hasn't ended, and an attempt to cover the corruption and the failure of the authorities, which transformed Bahrain into a failing state that relies on aid, debts and has fallen into fiscal deficit.

The opposition society stressed that the Bahraini regime is leading the kingdom to the unknown in the absence of an economic vision, ongoing corruption, looting of public funds and resources, completely eliminating the role of the people in having economic and political influence, as well as the regime's full unilateral control over all aspects of the state. Al-Wefaq further stated that this led the Bahrainis and Bahrain to bankruptcy.

It added that this deterioration and weakness in managing the economic situation with low salaries and deteriorating of livelihood of citizens and prevalence of unemployment, amid the unprecedented inflation of balances and accounts of officials, reflect the reality of what's going on in the country.

The society also highlighted that the worst is yet to come, adding that the ghost of taxes will turn into a reality imposed on the people in Bahrain due to the absence of true popular participation in the formation of the Government and the Parliament and all state institutions.

Al-Wefaq demanded putting an end to this exploitation and called on the government to allow citizens to have a role in the country's political and economic decisions, stressing that Bahrain has competent experts and institutions capable of setting clear visions and national projects that would rectify the situation before it deteriorates more and leads the country to a dark tunnel which would be difficult to get out of in future.
