Bahrain Mirror: The director of the Anti-Cybercrimes Directorate of the General Authority for Combating Corruption and Economic and Cyber Security, Ahmed Al-Rumaihi, said that all employees in the Authority are performing their duties without paying heed to any external pressures.

Al-Rumaihi said that the number of cases received by the Authority during the year 2017 amounted to 697 cyber cases, 449 cases of which were referred to the Public Prosecution, while there are still 248 pending cases.

The Prime Minister last month strongly criticized the Authority and accused it of involvement in sparking divisions in society. One of its employees was later arrested over leaks on Twitter.

Al-Rumaihi said in a press statement that e-frauds topped the list with 301 cases, followed by 299 cases of misuse of telecommunications devices, while libel cases amounted to 80 cases.
