NIHR Received 484 Complaints and Requests for Assistance in 2017

Bahrain Mirror: A total of 484 complaints and requests for assistance were submitted to the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) in 2017 versus 138 complaints and requests for assistance in 2016.

The fifth report of the institution whose board of directors are assigned by royal decree said that the complaints related to civilian and political rights reached 50 and complaints related to right to physical and moral integrity reached 19. Meanwhile, 19 complaints were submitted in cases related to right to liberty and security of person.

6 complaints concerning the right to a fair trial, 4 complaints concerning the right to equality before the law and 2 complaints related to the right to citizenship were received by the NIHR.

Besides, complaints related to economic, social and cultural rights amounted to 91 and only one complaint concerning right to education was submitted to the institution. NIHR received 66 complaints concerning right to health, 10 complaints concerning right to an adequate standard of living, 6 complaints concerning right to work and 5 complaints concerning right to enjoying various rights and freedoms.
