Bahrain Mirror: The Jaw Prison administration refused to temporarily release political prisoner Nizar Al-Wadaei to attend the funeral procession of his uncle, who died on January 24, 2024.

The head of the Monitoring and Follow-up Committee at the Bahraini Human Rights Society, Zainab Al-Khamis, stated in a post on the "X" platform, that "the relevant authorities were contacted regarding the request for the temporary release of Al-Wadaei, but unfortunately the administration of Jaw Prison only granted the prisoner a private visit."

She wondered "Is a private visit enough to share his family's sorrows and take a last look at his late uncle?"

She noted the existence of "discriminatory procedures in dealing with such cases," recalling that "these are purely humanitarian cases that should not be dealt with in such severity and discrimination," explaining that "allowing prisoners to participate in the burial of their relatives is one of their rights in accordance with local and international law."
