Bahrain and the United States are expected to sign a strategic economic and security agreement this week that will upgrade the U.S. security commitment to the Gulf kingdom, according to US media reports.

The Bahrain Center for Human Rights (BCHR) called on Denmark, the United States, the European Union and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) to pressure Bahrain to unconditionally release detained human rights activist Abdulhadi Al-Khawaja and all political prisoners.

"Today marks one month since the beginning of the largest mass hunger strike by political prisoners in Bahrain," Maryam Al-Khawaja said in a tweet via "X" platform. She announced that she will be traveling to Bahrain next week to try and save her imprisoned father's life.
