Front Line Defenders condemned this recent wave �of harassment against human rights defenders in Bahrain� considering it to �be solely motivated by their peaceful and legitimate activities in the defence of human rights�. It urged the authorities �to cease all forms of harassment against all human rights defenders in Bahrain� and �immediately and unconditionally remove the travel bans imposed against human rights defenders facing travel restrictions.�

Bahraini authorities have put a prominent human rights lawyer on trial for charges that include insulting state institutions, Human Rights Watch (HRW) said on Thursday, in a further crackdown on dissent.

Lawyer Mohammed Al-Tajer said Bahraini authorities banned dozens of Bahraini human rights activists as well as political and religious figures from traveling.

Bahrain security forces banned on Friday three human rights activists from leaving the country. This comes in a series of arbitrary measures adopted against activists and opposition figures.

Sheikh Maytham Al-Salman, Head of Religious Freedom Unit in the Bahrain Human Rights Observatory (BHRO), said that the authorities prevented today (August 23, 2016) the prominent lawyer and human rights defender Mohammad Al-Tajer from leaving the country.
