Deputy president of (dissolved) Bahrain Teachers Association Jalila Al-Salman received Mary Hatwood Futrell award during a ceremony held in Bangkok, Thailand, on Thursday (July 25, 2019), on sideline of Education International world congress.

Education International�s Executive Board has named Jalila Al-Salman, as the recipient of the Mary Hatwood Futrell Human and Trade Union Rights Prize for her outstanding engagement and courage in promoting education for all.

Mahdi Abu Deeb, President of the dissolved Bahrain Teachers� Association (BTA), won the International Solidarity Award for 2017, granted by the largest teachers� union in the UK, NASUWT. Abu Deeb spent 5 years in prison after a Bahraini court ruled against him.

Bahrain Teachers� Association President Mahdi Abu Deeb said �there are 400 students that are detained and deprived from the right to education.�
