Parliamentary Bill to Tighten Penalty of Forced Prostitution to at Least 5 Years Imprisonment

Bahrain Mirror: The Bahraini House of Representatives is considering in its next session a bill amending some provisions of the Penal Code, aimed at tightening the penalty against anyone who forces a male or female to commit prostitution through coercion, threats or deceit, with a prison term of at least five years and not more than seven. However, if the victim's age is under 18, the penalty shall be imprisonment for a period not less than seven years and not more than ten years. The penalty in articles 326, 325, 324 shall also be toughened, i.e. if the offender is a spouse of the victim, of his/ her origin, has custody or authority over the victim, the sentence would reach up to 15 years in prison.
